 Distracted much?

Do you find yourself distracted by everyday life?

I do, and I suspect I am not alone. The news, mainstream opinions about events in the world, social media, text messages, phone calls, a broken car windshield, sickness, storms, whatever. The way we handle each pull away from innate peacefulness makes a difference to the quality of life.

The foundational thread woven into Chasing Sleep and my other books is all about stepping out from a stream of opinions and happenings running turbulently and continually through us--invites you to reflect on your mindset and attitude toward your life, the world and especially toward sleeplessness. This reflection helps you decide what is meaningful to you.

The image of stepping on stones to cross a rushing river is a helpful metaphor for me. Each day challenges me to find bits of quiet balance and connection with a calm inner wisdom. Then I step off again. Crossing the icy waters stone by stone leaves my feet dry, with head and heart intact.

The breath is an ever-ready stepping stone for thriving, even with gruesomely relentless sleeplessness. Simply stopping at times to breathe effortlessly easily reinforces a sense of “the force being with you” --a peaceful and joyful presence within, simply waits to be recognized. Try it.

This is the premise built into Chasing Sleep’s look into the history of sleep, the science, the psychology, attitudes toward sleep and the experiences of others. The book invites readers to use stillness and calm to discern what they can trust as their own best ways to manage a sleepless time.

Claiming Space, the companion book is a virtual workshop for restoring and nurturing yourself by resting in and enjoying stepping stone moments of peacefulness in the midst of whatever your dilemmas.

You know what is right for you.

When you truly understand this, you stop, recognize your truth and act accordingly. This course of action is deeply meaningful.
